|McAneny Brothers began... in 1979 when Steve, Tom and Joe McAneny purchased Harry Helsel Wholesale.
The McAneny and Helsel families were neighbors in the 8th ward section of Johnstown, PA.
|The three brothers... each worked after school and summers for Harry and Mary Jo Helsel. They cleaned and stocked shelves, picked orders, drove and unloaded delivery trucks.
As each brother in turn finished school, he chose to stay with the business. Each went on the road, calling on customers, visiting stores, finding sources for requested items.
When the Helsels retired, the three McAneny brothers borrowed money from Dale National Bank and bought the business.
|In those days... the company sold tobacco, candy and novelties, including plush stuffed animals for carnivals and local fairs.
As the years went by, the brothers sold the novelty part of the business to concentrate on food distribution.
McAneny Brothers moved to larger spaces several times as the firm grew. They entered the produce business when they acquired a respected produce distributor.
|Finally in 1997... McAneny Brothers built a modern warehouse in an industrial park near the intersection of routes 22 and 219 in Ebensburg, PA.
The building was enlarged in 2006.
